Tool handling techniques by Hedin Lagan staff were a great success.
The SMED handling equipment on show were the die lifters and the die movers developed by the Swedish company Hedin Lagan.
Die lifters employ a bladder bag which inflates using the 6 bar shop air and raises the die lifters and the tool clear of the press bed, allowing easy manual movement of tools up to 4 tonnes in weight.
The die movers enable larger capacity tools to me transfered in and out of the press with ease. Examples here in the UK are a sink manufacturer who is quick changin 12 tonne tools in under 5 minutes. Not single minute exchange of tools, but very close.
Die Lifters have a lift capacity of 3.4 tonnes per pair/metre and are a less expensive alternative to hydraulic lifters.
The die movers are able to lift and move any weight of press tool.
